When young newlyweds purchased their first house on Tuxedo Avenue, the symmetrical and gabled structure came with a blank canvas backyard. A desire to string out post-college party mode meant adding a rear outdoor living and entertaining space creating a “business in the front / party in the back” architectural mullet. Lounging, cooking, and dining experiences are shaded and fan-cooled by day and illuminated with linear LED lights and fire by night. After sundown this lounge-like atmosphere is a neighborhood gathering hub for family and friends. A bamboo-filled steel planter in conjunction with a wood slat fence obscure the side driveway and focus the experience on the greened-in back yard. With time, vines will cover the steel structure overhead and give the mullet an organic mane.
