Hill Country Village, Texas
Renderings: Tobin Smith Architect
A winding drive threads through the wooded property before arriving at an articulated stone structure in a clearing. Native grasses grow atop the walls like many rural ruins, but glazed openings hint at occupation. The splayed arms of OmNee House funnel guests into the entry sequence – an experience that reveals an architectural stage with nature as the enveloping backdrop. Atop this plinth a basin of water doubles as a lap and reflecting pool, inviting exercise and contemplation. Surrounding the elevated cut stone groundplane and manicured lawn, the site is left as it was found, juxtaposing cultivated and wild environments.
The home’s outdoor spaces open to the southeast breeze, which rakes across the water and carries through the patio portal, a space defined by two masonry volumes and the bridging children’s wing above. The end of this copper clad bar cantilevers past an exercise and spa structure, shading the expansive folding glass door that opens to the game lawn beyond.
