San Antonio, Texas
Truax Construction
A response to Texas-sized hail, this endeavor to provide shelter for two vehicles presented a structural challenge as the available space and municipality restrictions meant columns could only be planted along one side. Rotational and uplift forces dictated moment connections at the steel structure. Stained cedar decking spanning across the dark bronze skeleton visually connects to the home’s cedar shake roofing. Rain is shed away from the house and into a bed of bamboo, hail is deflected and cars are protected, and the insurance adjuster is no longer a family fixture.
